This will affect the entire shipbuilding industry.
The Russian ship Ursa Major sank off the coast of Spain. This incident will mean the loss of a unique ship for the Kremlin, which is used in Russian military logistics. This was stated by Forbes columnist David Axe.
He notes that the loss of the 13,000-ton vessel will hit the Russian company Oboronlogistika and will also affect the Russian shipbuilding industry.
Another special advantage of the vehicle was the presence of rolling ramps and vertical cranes for loading.
“It was the Ursa Major that supported the Russian garrison in Syria, and then found itself under threat due to the fall of the old regime in that country. However, the ship itself was reportedly performing a different task,” Axe writes.
The journalist notes that the ship left St. Petersburg for the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok on December 16, together with the Russian auxiliary ship Sparta and the Russian navy corvette Soobrazitelny.
A frigate of the British Royal Navy observed the ship's passage into the Mediterranean, as did a patrol ship of the Portuguese Air Force. What immediately catches the eye is the ship's cargo. Two large cargo cranes and a pair of special hatches for the nuclear icebreaker were the main cargo that the Ursa Major was carrying.
“The bulky cranes may have made the ship overloaded, and this could have potentially caused a disaster,” Axe believes.
“Along with the vessel, cranes intended for the Vladivostok terminal and luxury hatches for icebreakers went to the bottom. The Ursa Major's mission in the Far East was to fulfill state tasks on “developing port infrastructure and the Northern Sea Route,” which have now obviously been thwarted,” the publication quoted the Russian blogger as saying.
