On Sunday, December 29, in South Korea, a Boeing 737-800 passenger plane skidded off the runway and collided with a fence at Muan Airport. Fire services confirmed the deaths of 96 people, but believe that all but two people on board were killed. New details about the plane crash have now emerged.
There were 175 passengers and six crew members on Jeju Air Flight 2216 from Bangkok.
The bodies of the victims were found in the tail section of the plane. The death toll is likely to rise.
Two people were rescued from the burning plane.
“Authorities are conducting an on-site investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, and rescue operations are ongoing,” officials said.
As of 8:40 Minsk time, the Korean Fire Service, according to Yonhap news agency, identified 96 dead. At the same time, officials believe that all but two people who have already been rescued have died. Thus, the death toll could rise to 179 people.
Most of the passengers were Korean, except two Thai citizens.
