Everything will come true – you'll see!
Liavon Volski writes for budzma.org about our common journey home for Christmas – where “childhood expectation of Miracle returns and where Santa (Saint Nicholas) will bring you a gift at night. The one you have been waiting for all the year.”
"Our journey has dragged on, but we will come back, for sure.
Through difficulties and obstacles to happy end, Driving Home For Christmas, Chris Rea sings in the immortal Christmas hit. He is driving home on Christmas, on Christmas, stuck in traffic jams, at red traffic lights and can’t wait to finally see his family’s faces and sit down with them at the festive table.
Many Christmas movies tell the story of how the main character, through obstacles and adventures, through impassable roads and cancelled flights, through various unfavourable conditions, gets home by Christmas, where his family is waiting for him to celebrate Christmas together. In the end, he overcomes all the trials and obstacles and finds himself home – Happy End.
The Path to Christmas Miracles
The shoppers in the hypermarkets have left before Christmas, the tired cashiers have counted their profits. The animators have taken off their work uniforms and changed into regular clothes. The Christmas markets are over. The air still smells of mulled wine spices, and the garlands are burning on the shelves, but the market will not open again until a year later.
The musicians have played their pre-Christmas concerts, putting their guitars and keyboards in their cases. The wind still carries the sounds of Jingle Bells, but it is from a speaker in front of the supermarket. Everyone has gone home to their families.
Some people travel from a big city where they work to a snowy village, some travel by train from one city to another where their family is waiting for them, some need to travel thousands of kilometers by plane, and some sail across the sea on a ferry... Home. For Christmas.
To a cozy place where there is something to warm up with and where to hide, where there are loved ones, where Christmas carols are heard, where Christmas candles are burning, where your childish anticipation of a Miracle will return to you, and Santa (Saint Nicholas) will bring you a gift at night. The one you've been waiting for all year.
That's why on the eve of the holiday everyone goes home.
Everything will come true. You'll see!
We'll also come home for Christmas. Yes, our journey has dragged on. For some, it's for a few days, for some, for years and even decades. Yes, adverse road conditions, flight cancellations and postponements, natural disasters, dictatorship, war...
Sometimes it seems that everything is against us, against our return –we know the villains who steal Christmas from us, ban St. Nicholas, do not allow us to sing carols, gnash their teeth and threaten. Like in a Hollywood Christmas movie! And a Hollywood Christmas movie always ends with a happy ending. It will be the same with this one.
We just need to sing together:
"Let's ask the heavens when jingle bells
To celebrate the next Christmas in Minsk."
And everything will come true. You'll see!
