Media Shows Finnish Police Storming Russian Spy Vessel

Unique footage has been published.

The high-tech equipment on board was unusual for a merchant vessel and consumed more power from the generator. Finland detained the vessel over suspicions that it had recently been used to damage key underwater cables in the Baltic Sea to harm countries helping Ukraine.

Finnish police and border guards boarded a ship linked to Russia that was filled with “spy equipment,” The Daily Mail reports.

Finnish police seize Russia-linked Eagle S tanker from “shadow fleet”

Authorities suspect that the oil tanker Eagle S was dragging its anchor, causing the Estlink 2 power line between Finland and Estonia to break.

In response, NATO is urgently stepping up patrols in the Gulf of Finland, a busy shipping lane that is also used extensively by Russian naval and commercial vessels.

Photos show Finnish law enforcement officers descending on the ship from a helicopter. The Cook Islands-registered Eagle S is believed to be part of Russia’s 'shadow fleet', which Vladimir Putin is using to evade sanctions.

It appeared to be a poorly maintained oil tanker, but sources said it was acting as a 'spy ship' for Russia, with high-tech equipment to monitor NATO ships and aircraft.

“The high-tech equipment on board was unusual for a merchant vessel and drew more power from the generator, causing multiple power outages,” Lloyd’s List reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.

But it has now been detained by the Finns on suspicion that it was recently used to damage key undersea cables in the Baltic Sea to harass NATO countries that support Ukraine.

According to a British shipping industry publication, the Eagle S has previously dropped sensors in the English Channel while in transit and a person possibly linked to espionage activities has been spotted on board.
