By the summer of 2025.
The American publication The Financial Times reported that the Polish authorities have decided not only to modernize the recently built wall on the border with Belarus. Warsaw has decided to completely close the border with Belarus by the summer.
According to the American publication, Warsaw sees the strengthening of the wall as a way to stop the influx of illegal migrants, which it calls a consequence of 'Russia's hybrid war'.
Additional infrastructure work along the 400-kilometer eastern border, which the government of Donald Tusk announced earlier this year, is planned to be completed by mid-2025, said Maciej Duszczyk, Deputy Minister of Migration in Poland.
According to him, after the completion of the work, "border security will be as close to 100% as possible."
Poland has currently spent more than 2.5 billion zlotys (587 million euros) on strengthening the border, half of which was allocated by the Tusk government. "This artificially created migration route will be closed next summer, I hope and believe in it," Maciej Duszczyk expressed his confidence.
For now, the Polish government has ordered the installation of additional night vision and thermal cameras, the construction of a new road for patrolling the border, and the strengthening of the five-meter steel fence that the previous PiS government built in 2022.
