Santa Claus And Jingle Bells Banned In Minsk Schools

Class advisors received an order from the Minsk leadership.

Class advisors of the capital's schools received an order from the Minsk leadership not to use the image of Santa Claus and English-language songs in festive events, Euroradio reports.

At the same time, it is recommended to emphasize Belarusian traditions. However, it is not specified which ones. It is not reported whether it is possible to use the image of St. Nicholas or Ziuzia [the character of Slavic fairy tale folklore associated with winter - Ed.].

The style and spelling of the message are preserved:

"Dear class advisors,

Order of the city leadership:

SANTA CLAUS, Christmas and English-language songs (like Jingle Bells) are PROHIBITED at matinees, musical events and parties

WE USE: our famous songs and our fairy-tale characters.

Emphasis on Belarusian traditions.

The same applies to New Year's decorations!!!!

We also ask you to pay attention to the organization of off-site New Year and Christmas events and excursions. All planned trips and excursions only with the approval of me or the director."

Please take this into account.

Let us recall that in Belarus, Western Christmas songs were banned in shopping centers and cafes. The Brest City Executive Committee banned Santa Claus and pine Christmas wreaths. In 2023, the regime in Belarus banned the celebration of Valentine's Day.
