Protesters Show Red Cards to New 'President' of Georgia

The inauguration ceremony of the new 'president' Mikheil Kavelashvili took place in Georgia. His legitimacy is not recognized by the current head of state Salome Zurabishvili, the opposition, a significant part of international partners, and the protesters have already shown him red cards.

Kavelashvili was elected president by the Electoral College, consisting of deputies from the pro-Russian Georgian Dream, District Sakrebulo (municipal authorities) and the Supreme Councils of the Adjara Autonomous Republic and the Abkhaz Autonomous Republic. On Sunday, December 29, he took the oath in the parliament building.
The inauguration ceremony lasted about 30 minutes. At the same time, Salome Zurabishvili said that she does not plan to resign, as she considers the newly elected pro-Russian parliament illegitimate.
At the same time, protesters gathered near the parliament building. During the inauguration, they showed Kavelashvili red cards.
Mikhail Kavelashvili is a Georgian football player. He began building a sports career in 1987, and already in 1991, he began playing for the national team. Kavelashvili ended his football career in 2008 as part of the Swiss club Zurich.
