This follows from a document of the State Control Committee.
According to an official letter from the Deputy Chairman of the State Control Committee Stanislav Narkevich to the Council of Ministers, less than 8.8 million people live in Belarus. Pozirka obtained a copy of the document, drawn up in November of this year.
The letter discusses implementing Lukashenkф's order to provide "all consumers with quality drinking water" by 2025 and cites ‘current’ water supply statistics.
"According to the information available to the committee," the document says, "water supply services are currently provided to 8.6 million people in the republic, including 8.4 million by housing and communal services organizations, and 0.2 million by other sectors."
At the same time, as specified, "the provision of consumers with drinking water in the republic has reached about 98%."
It follows from these data that in total, about 8.78 million people lived in Belarus in November (taking into account rounding).
According to Belstat, as of January 1, 2024, the population of Belarus was 9,155,978 people. This is 44,639 less than a year earlier. In fact, an entire regional center has left - approximately the same as Volkovysk or Slonim. Since 2019, the number of Belarusians has decreased by 257,468 people. This is like Pinsk, Zhlobin and Slutsk combined.
At the same time, official statistics do not take into account Belarusians who have left the country in the past few years.
