Biden's adviser has met with the head of the Ukrainian President's Office.
The White House under Joe Biden's presidency has developed the latest strategy to support Ukraine. It includes an ‘avalanche’ of military aid and sweeping new sanctions against Russia.
This is reported by The Guardian.
According to the publication, on Thursday, Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan met with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.
Their meeting lasted more than an hour. As a result, Biden's senior adviser promised that by mid-January 2025, the United States will provide Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of missiles and hundreds of armoured vehicles.
In addition, the United States promises to support Ukraine on its personnel issue by offering to train new soldiers at facilities outside Ukrainian territory.
This comes alongside a near-final agreement on $20bn in loans to be repaid from frozen Russian assets.
The Guardian adds that the US is linking this to a series of new sanctions that will be imposed in the coming weeks to complicate Russia's ability to continue military action and strengthen Ukraine's position at the negotiating table that could lay the groundwork for a future settlement.
This latest move by the White House comes just over a month before Donald Trump's inauguration, after which the US could introduce an entirely new strategy for a full ceasefire.
