Several explosions thundered in the capital of the Adygea Autonomous Region of the Russian Federation, the city of Maykop, on the night of December 7. They were heard, in particular, in the area of the local airfield.

Russian media began writing about the explosions in Maykop after two am local time.
At first, Russian Telegram channels indicated that the cause of the incident could allegedly have been explosions of gas cylinders.
However, later, reports appeared on the network about the work of air defense forces and means in the capital of the Republic of Adygea.
According to the SHOT Telegram channel, Maykop residents heard “at least two powerful explosions,” and this happened in the area of the local airfield.
“An air raid siren has not yet been declared in the region, and there has been no official information yet,” Russian media added.
Astra clarifies that after the explosions, local residents saw a column of smoke in the Cheryomushki microdistrict.
In addition, footage of the “bavovna” in Maykop was published online.
The Russian airbase “Khanskaya” is located in the Republic of Adygea — 3 kilometers east of the village of Khanskaya, and 6 km northwest of the city of Maykop.
According to open data, the “Khanskaya” airfield is capable of receiving, among other things, Tu-134, An-12, Il-18 aircraft, as well as helicopters of all types.
The airfield is home to military aviation — the 272nd training aviation Polotsk orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov aviation base, which is equipped with L-39 and MiG-23 aircraft.

The distance from Maykop to the line of conflict in Ukraine, that is, to the part of the country’s territory free from Russian occupiers, is approximately 440 kilometers.
