Rebels Bring Down Monument To Syrian Dictator’s Father Hafez Al-Assad In Damascus

Earlier, a similar statue was torn down in the city of Hama.
In Damascus, rebels tore down a monument to Hafez al-Assad, the previous Syrian dictator and father of the current one, Bashar al-Assad, who had previously fled in a hurry in an unknown direction.
A video of the incident was published online.

Before that, it became known that a similar monument to Assad Sr. had been torn down in the Syrian city of Hama. And the rebels dragged what was left of the statue along the ground, tied to cars.

Hafez al-Assad seized power in Syria in a military coup in 1970 and ruled until his death in 2000.
His son, Bashar al-Assad, then came to power and ruled Syria for more than two decades until his regime collapsed in an armed uprising in November-December 2024.
