Reuters“We will not forget nor forgive. It is a serious antisemitic attack. In my name and the name of the citizens of Israel - tell President Lula that he is persona non grata in Israel until he takes it back,” Foreign Minister Israel Katz told Brazil's ambassador, according to a statement from Katz's office.
According to him, what is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people has no parallel in other historical moments, except for one case.
“When Hitler decided to kill the Jews,” the President of Brazil said.
Israel reacted with outrage to Lula’s comments, calling them “disgraceful”, and said it would summon the Brazilian ambassador for a “reprimand” over the remarks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah said the Brazilian leader had “crossed the red line”.
“What the President of Brazil said was disgraceful and grave. This is a trivialisation of the Holocaust and an attempt to attack the Jewish people and the right of Israel to self-defence,” Netanyahu said.
