When Will Belarus Start Issuing Driver's Licenses Valid For 20 Years?

Issuance will occur within three working days.

Driver's licenses valid for 20 years will begin to be issued in Belarus on March 23. This is provided for by Decree #55, signed on February 16. The full text of the decree appeared on the National Legal Portal. Currently, driver’s licenses are issued for 10 years.

“Increasing the period of issued driver’s licenses will reduce the burden on registration departments and motorists,” says Aliaksandr Shmayankou, head of the department of registration and examination activities and technical supervision of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in a commentary to BelTA.

According to him, this is in line with international practice: many countries issue certificates for such a period.

The time frame for registering vehicles with the traffic police will also be reduced to 7 working days instead of the previous 10. The issuance of a driver's license will take place within three working days, not five, as it does now.

For transport that has not previously been registered on the territory of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, it will be necessary to issue an electronic passport. Beltamozhservice is responsible for this procedure.
