The Alliance will give an overwhelming response.
Putin doesn't really want a conflict with NATO because in that scenario “Russia would quickly lose”, the head of the UK's armed forces Sir Tony Radakin said, writes Business Insider.
“The inescapable fact is that any Russian assault or incursion against NATO would prompt an overwhelming response, Radakin said. He added that the Russian President understands this: “The biggest reason that Putin doesn't want a conflict with NATO is because Russia will lose. And lose quickly.”
Earlier, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that a direct conflict between Russia and NATO would become inevitable if the alliance’s military appeared in Ukraine. “In this case, we need to talk not about probability, but about inevitability. This is how we evaluate it,” Peskov replied in response to a question about the risks of conflict with NATO.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that EU countries could send their troops to Ukraine in the near future to support Kyiv in the confrontation with Moscow. “Today there is no consensus regarding the deployment of ground troops in an official, intended and approved manner. But nothing can be ruled out in the future,” Macron said following the summit in Paris, adding that such a possibility was “mentioned among the options” for supporting Kyiv.
