EU To Impose Sanctions Against 'Dozens Belarusian, Russian Officers'

The sanctions may be imposed on the second anniversary of the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The European Union (EU) plans to include "several dozen Belarusian and Russian officers" in the 13th package of sanctions, timed to coincide with the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, EUobserver reported, citing several diplomats (names withheld).

In addition to the Belarusian and Russian military, sanctions will be imposed against Russian citizens involved in the kidnapping of Ukrainian children, the publication said.

Chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said in the European Parliament on February 6 that the next package of sanctions would be adopted by the "symbolic" date of February 24. She believes that the restrictions have "already weakened" Russia.

The democratic forces of Belarus have repeatedly urged Western partners to synchronise sanctions against the regime of Aliaksandr Lukashenka and the Kremlin.
