The Polish Foreign Minister appealed to the Pope because of his resonant statement.
If the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin withdraws his troops from Ukraine, the need for negotiations will immediately disappear.
RBC-Ukraine reported citing Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski on X.
“How about, for balance, encouraging Putin to have the courage to withdraw his army from Ukraine? Peace would immediately ensue without the need for negotiations," Sikorsky wrote.
What’s the reason?
Pope Francis made an unexpected statement regarding the war in Ukraine. According to the video interview, which should be released only on March 20, Pope said that the strongest one who "the strongest one is the one who looks at the situation, thinks about the people, has the courage of the white flag, and negotiates."
It is worth clarifying that Francis has previously called for a diplomatic settlement of the war between Ukraine and Russia, however, in this case, for the first time, he actually called on Kyiv to surrender.
Francis' statement drew condemnation from Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, who said that no one has to surrender to the Evil.
Meanwhile, the Vatican has already justified the words of the Pope and noted that he did not mean the surrender of Kyiv, but only a dialogue through negotiations.
