Germany Uncovers Car Supply Scheme To Russia Via Belarus, Bypassing Sanctions

German customs has uncovered a scheme for the supply of luxury cars to Russia in circumvention of sanctions. They were taken out of Germany under the pretext of selling them to Belarus.

According to investigators, since June 2022, a group of suspects have sold more than 400 luxury cars worth more than 28 million euros to Russia.

Employees of the investigation department of the Berlin-Brandenburg Customs and the Berlin police today carried out searches at seven private and corporate addresses in Berlin and Brandenburg. Three suspects aged 25, 49 and 52 were detained. Assets in the form of money, real estate and cars worth more than 1 million euros were seized. The investigation is ongoing.

In March 2022, the EU banned the supply of luxury goods to Russia or for use in Russia. The list included, among other goods, cars worth more than 50 thousand euros and spare parts for them.
