An official letter has been sent to the Kremlin.
Armenia sent an official letter to Russia regarding the presence of Russian border guards at Zvartnots airport, said Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan. According to him, Armenian border troops should serve at the airport, news.am reports.
“Armenia sent an official letter to the Russian Federation with a clear position. We informed that Armenian border troops should serve at Zvartnots airport,” Grigoryan said.
At the end of February, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan called for the removal of Russian border guards from Zvartnots airport. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, however, said that Russia was not informed about this decision through official channels.
Russian border guards have been staying in Armenia under a 1992 agreement. The border department of the Russian FSB in Armenia includes four detachments — in Gyumri, Armavir, Artashat and Meghri, as well as a checkpoint at Zvartnots airport.
