Media: FSB Officers Kill Activist From Belarus In Karelia
MIKALAI ALIAKSEYEU

He participated in the 2020 protests.

Mikalai Aliakseyeu, 49, was killed in Olonetsk district of the Republic of Karelia (Russian Federation) on March 6.

Aliakseyeu was an activist from Belarus, a participant of the 2020 protests. According to preliminary reports, the man was killed by FSB officers, ASTRA sources report.

As ASTRA found out, according to the official version of the Russian investigation, Aliakseyeu allegedly "resisted the arrest and was killed."

They wanted to detain the man within the framework of a criminal case on "preparation for a terrorist act" (part 1 of article 30 part 1 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), which was initiated in Karelia on the same day.

According to the version of the Russian investigation, Mikalai was allegedly going to blow up the administration in the town of Olonets. At the time of publication ASTRA was not able to contact relatives of the activist. It is not known to ASTRA how and under what circumstances the man ended up in Russia.

Mikalai Aliakseyeu actively opposed Lukashenka's dictatorship in Belarus, published photos from the protests in 2020, posted posts on social networks about human rights violations in the country.

For example, here is the activist's publication from 25 June 2021:

"What is happening now in my country is called by one word - genocide. It is genocide of our people. An impudent, unscrupulous junta led by an impostor, supported by a bunch of vicious ghouls, has seized power by force. The people of Belarus have been fighting against them for almost a year. A lot of people are losing hope, some have not yet fully realised that repressions will affect everyone without exception. It will not be possible to sit it out. Violence has become the main principle of this government. And there are no brakes, no backtracking. My family and I have already felt it ourselves. It's painful, it's scary when you lose everything overnight. But you can't let fear take over right now. We must soldier on and continue to fight. Because the victory is ours, because fascism is doomed, because LONG LIVE BELARUS! ETERNALLY! WE BELIEVE, WE CAN, WE WILL WIN!" Mikalai wrote.
