Ales Bialiatski's Health Condition Worsens Behind Bars

The Nobel laureate has not been given the necessary medication.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate, chairman of the Human Rights Centre "Viasna" Ales Bialiatski has been behind bars for 1,000 days.

Natallia Pinchuk, the political prisoner's wife, told the Associated Press that Bialiatski has been in a solitary confinement cell for the past six months, despite his chronic illnesses.

"I have learnt from people who have left the prison that Ales' condition continues to deteriorate and he is not receiving certain medications that he needs," Pinchuk said.

She urged the UN to "act more actively" to help Bialiatski and other political prisoners in Belarus.

We remind you that in March 2023, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Beliatski, FIDH vice-president Valiantsin Stsefanovich and Viasna lawyer Uladzimir Labkovich were sentenced to 10, 9 and 7 years in prison, respectively, on trumped-up charges.
