The National Bank of Belarus has put an end to the history of Absolutbank. NKFO OptiKurs, into which the sanctioned bank was transformed in 2022, was excluded from the unified register of legal entities.
“Closed Joint Stock Company “OptiKurs” NKFO” (CJSC “OptiKurs” NKFO”) was excluded from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs. The corresponding decision was made by Resolution of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus dated April 12, 2024 #117,” the regulator’s press service said in a statement.
In 2021, Absolutbank came under sanctions from the United States and Canada. The bank was associated with Belarusian businessman Nikolai Vorobey, who was also on the US and EU sanctions lists. In 2022, it was transformed into OptiKurs, and a year later the new organization began to close banking service centers, offices, and exchange offices. The decision to liquidate OptiKurs was made by shareholders in July 2023; in August, the National Bank revoked the company’s banking license.
