High-Ranking Police Boss Died In Brest

He commanded the dispersal of the demonstrations in Pinsk in 2020.

Head of the Leninski District Department of Internal Affairs of Brest Dzmitry Karaviakouski was buried on April 15. Belsat sources report this. The farewell ceremony for the police colonel took place at the Palace of Culture of Trade Unions in Brest. Karaviakouski was 47 years old.

Karaviakouski was appointed head of the Leninski District Department of Internal Affairs of Brest in August 2021. In 2020, Karaviakouski worked as the head of the Pinsk police and personally led the crackdowns during the protests. As a result, the “Pinsk criminal case” arose, in which dozens of people were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 3.5 to 6.5 years and huge fines. In the materials of the criminal case, Karaviakouski’s name appears more than once; he testified against Pinsk residents who spoke out against the rigging of the presidential elections.

Karaviakouski himself was born in Pinsk. In 1994, he entered the Academy of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus. Since 1997, he worked as a criminal investigation officer at the Maskouski District Department of Internal Affairs of Brest. Two years later he transferred to the criminal investigation department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee. After graduating from the Master’s program at the Academy of Management under the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2017, he was appointed first deputy head of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Leninski District Administration of Brest. Since April 2019 he held the position of head of the internal affairs department of the Pinsk City Executive Committee. It is known that Karaviakouski’s father and brother also worked in the police.

The cause of Karaviakouski's death is unknown. On the website of the Leninski District Department of Internal Affairs of Brest, Dzmitry Karaviakouski is still listed as the chief; the work phone number of the head of the police department does not answer.
