Bringing Troops Into Ukraine: Macron Proposes New Strategy To Biden, Scholz

Paris calls on the West to 'keep the Kremlin guessing'.

French President Emmanuel Macron has urged German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden to "adopt a position of strategic ambiguity" towards Russia, leaving "all military options on the table", The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing unnamed officials.

Macron has allegedly held confidential talks with both leaders. The publication explains that the French president's idea "represented a radical departure" from the position that the US administration has maintained since the start of the military operation in Ukraine. WSJ writes that "Washington's approach was calibrated to avoid actions that could provoke Moscow." Macron, on the other hand, wanted to stop flaunting the West's "red lines" and "instead keep the Kremlin guessing."

The publication writes that Macron told allies that there would be no need to involve NATO or the US if Russia targeted French troops, as France has suffered losses in military campaigns in Africa without seeking help from allies.
