Houthis Hit Greek Ship With Missiles

Yemeni Houthis attacked a Greek bulk carrier in the Red Sea with missiles. The vessel, travelling under the flag of the Marshall Islands, was damaged but continued its journey.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, referring to the Twitter account (X) of the Central Command of the U.S. Armed forces (CENTCOM).

According to the US military Department, the incident occurred yesterday, May 28, between 12:05 and 13:40 local time.

It is noted that the Houthi militants launched five anti-ship ballistic missiles from areas of Yemen towards the waters of the Red Sea.

"M/V Laax, a Marshall Islands-flagged Greek bulk carrier, reported that it was hit by three missiles but continued its voyage. There were no reports of casualties from U.S., coalition or merchant ships," Centcom said in a statement.

Additionally, the report says, between the morning and evening of the same day, US forces (USCENTCOM) "successfully destroyed five unmanned aerial systems" over the Red Sea launched from Yemeni territory controlled by the Houthis.

"It was determined that the systems posed an imminent threat to merchant vessels in the region," the CENTCOM said.

It also said in a statement that the action to shoot down such aerial targets was being taken to protect shipping and to "make international waters safer for U.S., coalition and merchant vessels."
