Swiss President: About 90 Countries Have Confirmed Participation In ‘Peace Summit’
VIOLA AMHERD

This is slightly more than half of those invited.

Representatives of about 90 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the international conference in Switzerland, dedicated to discussing ways to end the war in Ukraine. This was announced by Swiss President Viola Amherd. According to her, most countries will be represented at the highest level — by heads of state or government.

The office of the President of Ukraine previously announced the consent of more than 100 participants.

The conference will be held on June 15-16. It is being held at the initiative of Ukraine by agreement with Switzerland. In total, about 160 states and organizations have been invited to the so-called peace summit. Almost half have not yet confirmed their participation. The Swiss President said that she does not consider this a failure.

Amherd reiterated that, although Russia is not invited to the meeting, the discussions will be devoted, among other things, to how to include Russia in the peace process. Representatives of the Ukrainian authorities have previously stated that this could become a reality if a significant number of countries, including neutral states, approve a unified negotiating position. Ukraine, however, insists on the so-called peace formula, which provides for the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory.

Leaders of several countries have confirmed their participation in the conference. The United States will be represented by Vice President Kamala Harris. Among the countries that have refused to participate in the meeting are China and the Central Asian states. A number of countries in the so-called global south will be represented at the level of advisers or ambassadors, not leaders.
