Russian Aircraft Violates Swedish Airspace

A Russian aircraft violated Swedish airspace on Friday, June 14. It was intercepted by Swedish Gripen fighter jets.

The Swedish Armed Forces reported this on Twitter (X).

“A Russian fighter jet violated Swedish airspace — JAS 39 Gripen intercepted it,” the statement said.

A spokesman for the Swedish Armed Forces told local media that the Swedish military tried to contact the Russian aircraft, but did not receive a response.

We will add that Sweden is a member of NATO. In 2024, the country joined the Alliance and officially became the 32nd member.

According to the NATO Charter, members of the military alliance agree that if one of them is attacked, the other countries must help it defend itself.
