Transshipment Of Belarusian Fertilisers In St. Petersburg Port Halted

Belaruskali got into a conflict.

Transshipment of Belarusian fertilizers in the port of St. Petersburg has been temporarily suspended due to price disagreements. This is reported by Fontanka.

According to the St. Petersburg publication, the transshipment was suspended by the stevedoring company of Baltic Shipyard. Belaruskali did not agree with the cost of services. The stevedoring company said that negotiations on the price were underway, as well as expressed confidence that the transshipment of Belarusian fertilizers would be resumed.

In the meantime, the terminal, managed by Baltic Shipyard, has switched to loading coal in containers and big bags. Belarusian fertilisers were also transshipped through the terminal in the same format.

Baltic Shipyard had its own berths and transshipped small volumes of commercial cargo. In 2022, amid the war and the breakdown of logistics chains, new opportunities opened up for the company. The publication notes that the terminal was created by the company, among other things, with the aim of receiving Belarusian potash after the Lithuanian railway refused to transport it to Klaipeda.

The transshipment of Belarusian fertilisers at the Baltic Shipyard terminal has been going on since the end of 2022. Last year, the terminal capacity was increased to 7 million tonnes per year. According to the newspaper, the company transshipped about 2 million tonnes of Belarusian fertilizers in 2023.
