Andrei Sharenda: They Are Simply Taking Revenge On Palina

The political prisoner refuses to testify in a new criminal case.

Activist of the European Belarus civil campaign Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk was again sent for a psychological-psychiatric examination. The Charter97.org website asked the political prisoner's husband Andrei Sharenda what is known about his wife's condition:

— Palina has been in pretrial detention center #3 in Homel for over a month. Charges over infamous article number 411 — malicious disobedience to the demands of the colony administration — have been brought against her.

Her case is being handled by investigators from the Rechytsa Investigative Committee. Investigative actions are currently underway. Palina refuses to testify in this criminal case. As revenge, the investigators ordered a so-called psychological-psychiatric examination. I would like to emphasize that this is already the fourth time this has happened. Palina was simply transferred twice from the pretrial detention center to Navinki, where she underwent an examination, coupled with torture in the form of long-term transportations, which lasted for one or two weeks.

It is difficult for me to call this anything other than psychological pressure.

It is known that Palina has now fully recovered from the psychological blow when a criminal case was opened against her again. She continues to resist and does not make any contact with the investigation.

We learned that Palina arrived at the pretrial detention center from the colony with practically no things. She either gave away all her things, as she expected to be released, or they were lost during the transportation. Transportation is a colossal test for a prisoner. Especially when you expect to get out of prison.

Andrei Sharenda also spoke about the meanness that the relatives of the political prisoner encountered:

— We are now trying to pass Palina some things. But, again, on June 1, “well-wishers” (and in reality — special services employees) completely “filled” Palina with the possible weight for parcels that is allowed by law. 30 kilograms of things and food that could be given to her were “filled” with last year's carrots. This is a new trick to prevent anything from being given to the political prisoner.

I want to emphasize that there have been no letters from Palina for more than six months. The only information about her we get is from messages that other prisoners and the lawyer send during the investigation.
