NYT Calls On Biden To Drop Out Of Presidential Race

The Democrats should look for another candidate.

The New York Times editorial board has called on US President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race and make way for a more “energetic” Democratic candidate. At the first television debates with his opponent, Biden appeared as “the shadow of a great public servant”, stated in the material published on Friday, June 28.

“Mr. Biden has been an admirable president. Under his leadership, the nation has prospered and begun to address a range of long-term challenges, and the wounds ripped open by Mr. Trump have begun to heal. But the greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election,” the journalists write.

Mr. Biden is not the man he was four years ago

As stated in the material, following the results of the tv debates of June 27, voters cannot be expected to ignore what was instead plain to see: “Mr. Biden is not the man he was four years ago”. Americans see with their own eyes the “age and infirmity” of their acting President. “More than once, he struggled to make it to the end of a sentence,” the NYT claims.

According to the authors of the article, the Democratic Party “has the burden of putting the interests of the nation above the ambitions of one man”, “there are Democratic leaders better equipped to present clear, compelling and energetic alternatives to a second Trump presidency”, “there is no reason for the party to risk the stability and security of the country by forcing voters to choose between Mr. Trump’s deficiencies and those of Mr. Biden,” stated in the material.

Is it time for Democrats to find a replacement for Biden?

Journalists believe that in order to defeat the Republican, Democrats must be honest with the American public — “acknowledge that Mr. Biden cannot continue this race”, and find another candidate.

Immediately after the end of the televised debates, talk began about whether the Democratic Party could nominate another candidate for president before or during the National Convention of the party, which will take place in August, and at which Biden should be officially nominated.

Publicly, leading representatives of the Democrats say that they support Biden and will fight for his victory. Official representatives of his headquarters also said that the president does not intend to leave the race.
