Polish Border Guard Attacked By Illegal Immigrants Diagnosed With Skull Base Fracture

On Monday morning, a Polish border guard was injured when a group of illegal immigrants tried to break through the border from Belarus into Poland.

Katarzyna Zdanowicz, a spokeswoman for the Polish Border Guard Service, told the RMF publication that the incident took place around 4am on Monday morning near Bialowieza. A group of about ten migrants threw stones and thick branches at a Polish patrol, and some foreigners sprayed gas from a canister. A branch hit one of the border guards in the head and injured him in the eye area.

The Border Guard Service wrote that their officer is in hospital, his life is not in danger. The publication of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reports that the condition of the border guard is described as serious. He has been diagnosed with a fracture of the skull base and damage to his eye socket.

‘There is a risk that his eye may not be saved,’ the journalists specified.

On May 31, two more Polish soldiers were injured in a clash with migrants on the border with Belarus. On May 28, one of the Polish border guards was stabbed. There is no threat to the soldier's life.
