Lukashenka Got Scared Of Vasil Bykau Once Again
VASIL BYKAU

The dictator is haunted by the people's memory of the author.

Lukashenka congratulated the pro-government Authors Union on its 90th anniversary. And here, as they say, there is a nuance. Not even one, Salidarnast writes.

The period of the Great Patriotic War was reflected in the works of writers who heroically defended the Motherland themselves. Poets Pyotr Prikhodzka and Pavliuk Pranuza left their autographs on the wall of the Reichstag," the message reads.

This ended the mentions of Belarusian authors who wrote about that war. There is not a word in the festive text about Vasil Bykau, whose 100th anniversary this year is celebrated in Belarus and abroad.

This ignorance is not surprising, since Lukashenka from the first days of his rule took revenge on Bykau for his civic position and public speeches.

The front-line soldier, the people's author, had to leave his own country, get asylum in Germany, with which he once fought during that bloody war.

When the Belarusians farewelled Bykau in June 2003, Lukashenka left the capital with a "sudden" inspection of the regions.

The current anniversary of the People's Writer of Belarus, whose name is known all over the world, is almost unnoticed in his homeland. Several exhibitions, one of which closed prematurely, a separate issue of the magazine — and that's almost everything.

At the same time, the state agency BelTA did not hesitate to report that on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of front-line authors Vladimir Bogomolov, Yuri Bondarev, Vasil Bykau and Boris Vasilyev, the Association of Unions of Writers and Publishers of Russia declared the 2024th Year of Lieutenant's Prose.

Someone may notice that Lukashenka addressed his congratulations to the Union under the leadership of Aliaksandr Karliukevich. Like, what does Vasil Bykau have to do with it? And this is the second nuance.

Two authors unions appeared in Belarus in 2005 as a result of a split inspired by the authorities, when the author was dead. He was directly related to the Union created in 1934. And it is hard to believe that his name in such a year was not mentioned in the greeting by chance.
