Ukraine Compact: Over 20 Countries Sign New Treaty In Support Of Ukraine At NATO Summit.

The main provisions of the document have become known.

During the NATO summit, the leaders of the allied countries signed the Ukraine Compact - a document containing commitments to support Ukraine. It unites the countries that have signed bilateral security agreements with Ukraine "into a single, coordinated and comprehensive architecture to support Kyiv".

This was reported by the European Commission.

The pact was signed by the leaders of the United States, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, together with the president of the European Council, the president of the European Commission and the president of Ukraine.

In addition to Ukraine, the pact united 21 countries and the EU in support of Ukraine.

Main Provisions of the Treaty

The Treaty provides for the realisation of the objectives spelled out in Ukraine's bilateral agreements. The signatories commit to supporting Ukraine in defence by providing military equipment, finance and training for the Ukrainian military. This includes working through:

Ukraine's Defence Contact Group,

Coalition of Capabilities,

Security Support and Training Command for Ukraine,

EU military assistance mission to Ukraine.

The Treaty also provides for accelerating assistance for the development of Ukraine's future Defence Forces until 2027, with a view to continuing into the 2030s. To this end, the Ukraine Defence Contact Group will convene at ministerial level every six months to review and approve the development roadmap.

In the event of a new Russian attack on Ukraine after the current war ends, the signatory countries are obliged to meet quickly at the highest level to determine further steps to support Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the signing of the treaty a success for Ukraine "because it develops our security architecture."

"We will definitely fulfil every point - we have enough energy for that," he added.

Zelensky reminded that last year at the NATO summit in Vilnius, "we took a very decisive step by adopting the G-7 declaration on Ukraine's security."

"And we did not waste time in vain. We now have a robust security guarantee architecture. "With the Ukraine Compact, we are taking our relations to a new level, which is a significant achievement for Ukraine and all of us," the Ukrainian president summarised.

Zelensky thanked Biden for his leadership and efforts to ensure that security co-operation is filled with decisive action.
