Eduard Babaryka Sentenced Again

The term of the political prisoner was extended.

Political prisoner Eduard Babaryka, son of Viktar Babaryka, has been sentenced to another one and a half years in prison, reports the human rights centre Viasna.

Eduard Babaryka was found guilty of "disobedience to the administration of the colony" (part 2 of Article 411 of the Criminal Code of Belarus). He will spend one and a half years longer behind bars than the previous term.

The case was considered by Judge Pavel Kartsinen at a field session in the colony.

We remind you that on July 5, 2023, Eduard Babaryka was found guilty under part 2 of Article 243, part 6 of Article 16 and part 1 of Article 342, part 3 of Art. 130 of the Criminal Code ("Tax evasion").

He was sentenced to eight years in a reinforced regime penal colony with a fine of 5,000 basic units (185,000 rubles).

Eduard Babaryka was detained together with his father, Viktar Babaryka, on June 18, 2020, and was kept in the KGB pre-trial detention centre.
