Poland To Shut Down Rail Transit From Belarus?

The idea is supported by the absolute majority of Poles.

Poles are in favour of blocking the railway transit from Belarus as a tool to put pressure on the Lukashenka regime. This is reported by the publication of "Rzeczpospolita," referring to the opinion poll conducted by sociologists from IBRIS.

39.9% of respondents strongly believe that Poland should agree to impose a blockade of railway transit from Belarus. 31.9% said they "rather agree" with this statement. 7.5% are against it, 5.7% are "rather against it," while 15% find it difficult to answer.

We remind you that in early July, Poland blocked the railway traffic for 33 hours at the customs clearance terminal in Malaszewicze on the border with Belarus. Officially, the customs services said that routine control measures were carried out to protect the EU customs territory from the entry of dangerous goods or substances. The Polish government decided to use this form of pressure on the Lukashenka regime, for which transit revenues constitute a significant part of the budget.

In addition, Warsaw is counting on pressure on Minsk from China, which may suffer losses due to the blocking of the terminal in Malaszewicze. This terminal is used to transport Chinese goods overland to the West.
