A man from India is allegedly being held hostage in Belarus, while his family is forced to pay a ransom to secure his release, The Times of India writes.

The relatives of the kidnapped person turned to the Indian government for help. They report that in Belarus the man is beaten, and they are unable to pay.

The Times of India writes that the man allegedly abducted in Belarus is named Sonu, he comes from the village of Dhamtan Sahib in the city of Narwan in the Jind district of Haryana.

According to his brother, Sonu was on his way to join his wife, child and nephew in Portugal when he was kidnapped and taken to Belarus. The man informed his relatives about this himself in a video call.

It is reported that the family had already paid 2 million Indian rupees (76 thousand rubles), but after that the kidnappers demanded even more money. After this, the man's relatives turned to the Indian government for help.

“My brother was just trying to join his family, and now he's being held hostage.We are very concerned about his safety. Please help us ensure his security,” the Indian publication quotes the abducted man’s sister as saying.

It is also reported that Indian Parliament member Randeep Surjewala has already drawn attention to the problem on social network X, having called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help free the Indian citizen abducted in Belarus.
