Number Of Yesterday's Bad Weather Victims In South Belarus Increases

Four people have died, five are injured.

Four people died the day before in the south of Belarus due to fallen trees and roof elements. Bad weather and strong winds are to blame. Two of the dead were children. A boy was crushed by a tree in a health camp in Rechytsa district, a birch tree fell on a five-year-old girl and her mother in Mahiliou district. Four more children and one adult were injured, writes euroradio.fm

Rescuers counted more than 800 cases of falling trees in the country yesterday. In Homel region, 249 settlements suffered, in Brest region - 12, Mahiliou region - 7. The wind damaged the roofs of 586 residential houses, 7 social and cultural facilities and 146 agricultural buildings. For example, the wind tore off the insulation from the end of an apartment building in Dobrush on the area of about 50 square metres.

"According to the results of visual inspection, the load-bearing structures of the house are not damaged," said the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Some settlements in Homel region were still without water and electricity this morning. In particular, Mazyr district suffered severely from the bad weather. Emergency teams from neighbouring districts were pulled here, writes Flagshtok. The local water company organised water supply, but only to two addresses: to the "Stroitel" Culture Palace and to the "Pryvoz" market. "There are only two cars with water for a town of 100,000?" local residents were asking in the chat rooms. Meanwhile, the Mazyr District Executive Committee stated that "the situation is under control".
