The cosplay doing an impression of the USSR will suffer the fate of the original.
The adherents of "traditional values" did not limit themselves to the fight against the "spawns of Western culture" such as Halloween and Valentine's Day.
In Polotsk they banned to hold an anime-fest for teenagers. Earlier, a festival of modern East Asian and world art and cosplay was cancelled in Homel.
The management of the Polotsk House of Culture decided that "anime promotes wrong values". And this is not just the opinion of a single official, but a quite obvious trend, which is set from the very top.
There is a peculiar irony in the fact that the Belarusian authorities, who themselves try to cosplay the USSR, ban cosplay. It would seem, why interfere in completely apolitical spheres and prevent teenagers from getting involved in something harmless? But there are two reasons why this is done.
The older Lukashenka gets, the more he tries to impose his ideas of beauty on the young (and everyone else). This desire is sensitively caught by the vertical and is put into practice. Everything will be "Slavonic Bazaar", because in the ruler's view this very event is the pinnacle of world culture.
The problem is also the obvious weakness and unpopularity of "traditional values". They are afraid of any competition and can exist only in conditions when all other directions are mopped up.
Moreover, this train will not stop only at "Slavyansky Bazaar". The end station is described in detail in the writings of Alexander Dugin, whom Alexander Lukashenko received as a guest:
"One should save one's immortal soul, not chase the devilish chimeras of consumption. Plant it yourself and eat it yourself. And read the Gospel. The rest is superfluous...
Consumption of anything beyond the essentials is a sin, a crime and an addiction....
You all have a little while to say goodbye to the West. And then you just switch to your own. It doesn't work, it doesn't drive, it doesn't function, it doesn't taste good. But it's ours. And we will rejoice over it...".
Few people are ready to rejoice over it. And many people think that such a crap will never happen to us. Well, they should not.
By eliminating any cultural alternatives - be they Western or Eastern - the authorities are pulling Belarus towards the most odious archaic models. If the system knew how to stop in time, it would 'become a grandfather', as they say.
But the brakes were bad from the very beginning, and with the time they have become completely worn out, and nowadays only the manual brakes are working a bit, and even they - only for the third time after two, at best.
That's why the number of bans will only grow - until all this cosplay on the USSR will suffer the fate of the original. And then we'll see if Slavonic Bazaar, which is a local variety of hentai, can survive in a situation where a hundred other festivals will appear.
