Global IT Failure Disrupts Operations Of Banks, Media, Airlines Around World

Blue screens of death have appeared on Windows work computers around the world.

There are reports from around the world of massive failures in the computer systems used to run airlines, banks and mainstream media.

Due to software glitches, airlines and airports are cancelling flights en masse - and those that have already departed are looking for an emergency landing.

The cause of the massive disruption to IT systems has not yet been identified, but Microsoft said it was taking mitigation measures.

Britain's railway companies also say they are facing ‘widespread IT problems’.

Television broadcaster Sky News was forced to interrupt its live coverage. Disruptions are also being experienced on the London Stock Exchange.

Users of Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity company, reported problems in India, the US and New Zealand. Australia's Melbourne Airport informed customers that ‘there has been a global technology issue that is affecting check-in procedures for some airlines’, it advised passengers there to ‘plan a little more time to check-in’.

Crowdstrike reported the observed ‘blue screens of death’ and said the cause was being investigated. The company said the problem is related to its Falcon Sensor product and engineering teams are working on a solution, a support notice stated.

There has been widespread airline disruption in the US, with major carriers United Airlines, Delta Airlines and American Airlines suspending flights due to communication problems. It is not specified what exactly the malfunctions are connected with. Also airports in Spain have experienced a ‘computer system incident’, this could lead to flight delays, said Aena, the operator company.

Turkish Airlines also warned of a global glitch that caused serious problems with ticket booking and check-in.
