‘Lukashenka is Arching His Back, Jumping And Squatting In Every Possible Way’

An expert explained what is behind the joint military exercises of Belarus and China.

China and Belarus held military exercises near the borders of Poland. In Minsk, these maneuvers were called “anti-terrorist training” of the joint Chinese-Belarusian group, and in Beijing, they stated that the event was not directed against any states.

In an interview with Glavred, military analyst and employee of the Security Service of Ukraine from 2004 to 2015 Ivan Stupak explained what the real goal of these exercises is.

According to him, Belarus is pursuing two goals: to conduct training of its troops together with such a solid partner as China, and to improve relations with Beijing.

“Lukashenka is arching his back, jumping and squatting in every possible way, because it is very important for him to be close to China. I think that it was Lukashenka who initiated sending Chinese troops to Belarus to conduct these exercises. In this way, Lukashenka is trying to show that, supposedly, the whole of China is friends with him, and he is not an outcast,” the analyst says.

Stupak notes that Belarus is primarily interested in holding Chinese-Belarusian exercises.

“Lukashenka is very self-conscious about the low level of combat readiness of his security forces, in particular the special forces and the army. After all, the training of the same Belarusian special forces, which includes breaking roofing slate with their heads, jumping through burning rings and other strange actions, looks ridiculous. Perhaps 10 years ago this would have been impressive, but now, when there is a war going on, during which the Ukrainian and, unfortunately, Russian armies are showing how they can fight, the actions of the Belarusians look ridiculous,” he emphasizes.

In addition, the military analyst notes that Belarus is watching Ukrainians and Russians gain military experience, the Poles training and purchasing equipment and ammunition for $15 billion, and the Baltic countries building long-term firing points worth 60 million euros.

“This is stressing Minsk out. Especially in a situation where the last more or less serious military experience the Belarusians had was during the Afghan campaign. And real experience in conducting combat operations was during the Second World War. The Belarusian army has no other military experience, which is why Lukashenka is so self-conscious. Last year, the Belarusian dictator ordered about 10 thousand Wagner mercenaries from Russia to train his army, and now he is conducting exercises with China,” Ivan Stupak concluded.
