Discontent With Government Growing In Russia

The main reasons have been named.

The Russian war against Ukraine is becoming a factor of irritation in Russia. One of the reasons is that the Kremlin is spreading information about military operations that does not correspond to reality, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reports.

The Defence Intelligence reported that information about the war, which is being spread by Russian propagandists, is increasingly causing “fatigue and discontent” in Russian society, rather than delight and exaltation, as was the case at the beginning of the invasion.

“One of the reasons for such changes is the discrepancy between the information disseminated by the regime and the real situation. The level of losses is becoming increasingly difficult to hide, and resources for conducting military operations are being exhausted, as evidenced, in particular, by Moscow’s active preparation for a record-breaking tax increase in its history,” the Defence Intelligence noted.

The intelligence service reported that the disappointing dynamics of public sentiment monitored by the Kremlin is forcing the Russian military-political leadership to prepare the population to “tighten their belts” and react. In particular, regional representatives of the Putin regime are already trying to shift the focus of attention from the irritating military topic to solving social and everyday problems.

The department noted that Russian regional authorities are trying to organize events to support participants in the war against Ukraine and their families, take part in the reception of citizens, develop and discuss special bills on supporting charity, raising salaries and protecting veterans. Also, regional authorities in the Russian Federation are simulating support for people with disabilities, the number of which is constantly increasing due to military actions in Ukraine. In particular, the Russian authorities want to develop domestic tourism for such people.

The intelligence service noted that the minimum number of spaces for people with disabilities in Russian parking lots is now 15%. In addition, participants in the war against Ukraine are provided with vouchers worth 15 thousand rubles, which can be used to buy tickets to cultural institutions for a year.

“Such an intensification of social activity indicates an attempt by the Russian authorities to channel discontent and avoid uncontrolled social explosions,” the Defence Intelligence added.
