Kazakh Opposition Journalist Aidos Sadykov Dies After Assassination Attempt In Kyiv

The wife of the deceased accuses Tokayev.

On the night of July 2, Kazakh opposition journalist Aidos Sadykov died in Kyiv, after an assassination attempt on June 18 in the capital of Ukraine.

RBC-Ukraine reported this citing his wife Natalya Sadykova on Facebook.

She noted that the journalist fought for his life for 13 days, but no miracle happened. Natalya added that the death of the opposition activist is on the conscience of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

“Aidos Sadykov left us today at 3:00 Kyiv time. My beloved husband, father of our three children, great son of the Kazakh people. Aidos gave his life to Kazakhstan and suffered martyrdom at the hands of killers. For thirteen days, Aidos fought for life in intensive care, but no miracle happened. His death is on Tokayev’s conscience,” the message says.

Attempt on Sadykov

Let us remind you that on Tuesday, June 18, a shooting occurred in the Shevchenkovsky district of Kyiv. According to preliminary information from the investigators, an unknown person ran up to the car and fired a pistol at Aidos Sadykov while he and his wife were in the car. As a result of the assassination attempt, a Kazakh opposition journalist was seriously injured.

The assassination attempt took place not far from the house where the couple lived (since 2014, Aidos Sadykov and his wife have lived in Ukraine and had refugee status).

Note that the oppositionist is known for criticizing the Kazakh authorities and oligarchs and supporting protests in Kazakhstan. In October 2023, he was put on the wanted list in his homeland for so-called “inciting hatred”.
