French police have detained a Russian citizen suspected of attempting to destabilize the situation during the Olympic Games in Paris, a source in the capital's prosecutor's office told AFP.

The man was detained and taken into custody during the investigation on suspicion of “organizing events that could lead to destabilization during the Olympic Games,” the agency’s source said.

According to the source, law enforcement authorities began an investigation against the person involved in the case of transferring intelligence information to a foreign power “for the purpose of inciting hostile actions in France.” For such a crime he faces up to 30 years in prison.
