US Bell 407M Armed Helicopters Offered To Ukraine

Bell has pitched its latest version of the armed 407 helicopter to Ukraine.
Speaking at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, Jeffrey Schloesser, executive vice-president of strategic pursuits at Bell, said the 407M had been proposed to Ukraine as part of a wider global push for the light attack helicopter, Janes writes.
At the same time, the company refused to disclose the details of the possible deal. It was only stated that the sale of the helicopter was offered to Ukraine as part of a large-scale project.
Bell 407M: what is known about the helicopter
Bell 407M is a pragmatic combat vehicle, which was created on the basis of the civilian helicopter 407, writes Defense Express.
The weapon control system of these helicopters supports the use of high-precision missiles (AGM-114 Hellfire and APKWS), an optical sighting station for detecting and targeting, mounts for weapons with 6 weapon suspension points.
In addition, as noted, the helicopter is equipped with armored pilot seats, ballistic-resistant blades, a fuel system sealing system, means of detecting and countering anti-aircraft missiles, etc.
General characteristics of the Bell 407M:
maximum cruising speed — up to 246 km/h,
maximum flight range — up to 624 km,
total useful weight — 1,156 kg,
maximum takeoff weight — 2,381 kg (with external cargo 2,722 kg).
“The Bell 407M is in any case inferior in its strike capabilities to specialized attack helicopters such as the AH-64 Apache and AH-1Z Viper. But at the same time it costs significantly less,” the analysts added.
