Is China Preparing For War?

Economists have pointed to an important factor.

China's raw material reserves should be declining, as the country's economy has recently experienced a deep crisis, and world prices are currently high. However, the opposite is happening — China's raw material reserves are growing at an astonishing rate,BILD writes.

Former US State Department analyst Gabriel Collins says that this development “raises serious concerns” — especially considering that China is also building up its military power along with its reserves. According to one version, China is preparing for possible isolation — for example, after an attack on Taiwan.

According to experts, China's reserves are not yet sufficient to start a war. The facts rather indicate that Xi Jinping is going to increase the amount of resources.

According to The Economist, China's reserves grew by 16% overall in 2023, and by 6% in 2024 from January to May alone. At the same time, as journalists note, the rapid increase in Beijing's reserves defies all logic. The industrial boom, during which Chinese enterprises needed energy and metals, is already over — imports in China are now growing much faster than consumption.

In particular, China has increased its crude oil reserves to 2 billion barrels. Natural and liquefied gas reserves, according to Morgan Chase, have increased sixfold to 15 billion cubic meters and will grow to 85 billion cubic meters by 2030. Wheat and corn reserves in China will already amount to 51% and 67% of world reserves, respectively, this year.

According to analysts, the sudden increase in China's reserves was also caused by the war in Ukraine, which made it clear that the West can impose tough sanctions even against such major opponents as Russia.
