Russians Create New ‘Frankenstein Monster’

Russians have created another “Frankenstein's Monster” for use on the front in Ukraine. This time, they crossed the 82-mm 2B9 Vasilek automatic mortar carriage with the 73-mm 2A28 Grom gun from a BMP-1. Military observer Oleksandr Kovalenko drew attention to this in Telegram.

According to the analyst, the emergence of a new “homunculus” in the Russian army is a direct result of the huge losses in armored vehicles suffered since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Thus, according to verified data, the Russians lost at least 850 BMP-1s destroyed, damaged, and captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and according to estimates, more than 1,500 units. In addition, there are still more than 1,000 BMP-1s in warehouses in Russia, but, according to experts, almost all of them cannot be restored.

According to Kovalenko, hundreds of BMP-1s that are beyond repair in storage bases and hundreds that were destroyed in battles often have intact barrels. It is these that the Russians decided to use to create a “long-forgotten class of light infantry support weapons,” since these barrels from destroyed BMPs are an excess resource.

“You can judge the quality of shooting and accuracy from the attached video, even without being an expert. The quality is at the level of “drives and shoots”... or rather “dragged and shoots,” but as a fire element accompanying the assault activities of Russian occupying forces’ suicide bombers, I think it will soon be used everywhere,” Kovalenko notes.
