Belarusian Artist Digs Up Vincent Van Gogh's Grave

Tourists became witnesses.

Belarusian artist Aliaksei Kuzmich has dug up the grave of Vincent van Gogh at the municipal cemetery in the French Auvers-sur-Oise. The performance was filmed and posted on the artist's YouTube channel.

Visitors who were at the cemetery became witnesses. They were also capturing what was happening on video.

Kuzmich appeared in a white suit looking like a mime with a shovel in his hands. He made a speech and then started digging the ground next to the grave. He managed to dig a hole several centimetres deep, after which he was detained by the police.

Kuzmich put an alarm clock on the tombstone.

The author accompanied the posted video with the text:

‘Good afternoon friends! You come here with sadness... I understand you... I also can't bear to live in a world where artists are over. But from now on, things will be different... Today is a momentous day. The Artist returns to the world! Congratulations to all of us on this great day! Artist! It's time to rise, Artist! Get up!’
