A citizen of Georgia was stripped of €235 thousand at the border of Belarus and Lithuania. The funds were seized by customs officers until the court decision. A criminal case under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code has been initiated, reports the State Customs Committee.
The man was travelling by car Volkswage through the ‘Beniakoni’ checkpoint. He declared 235 thousand euros. When carrying an amount of more than $100 thousand in equivalent, it is required to provide documents on the origin of funds at the border.
‘Hrodna customs officers doubted the authenticity of the declared information and conducted a check, as a result of which it turned out that the money was received by the citizen from non-existent firms,’ reads the message of the State Customs Committee.
As a result, the money was seized and a criminal case was opened.
