Israel Liquidates One Of Hezbollah's Top Commanders

He was responsible for shelling Israel from southwestern Lebanon.

On Wednesday, July 3, the Israeli army struck southern Lebanon and eliminated one of the top commanders of the Islamic Hezbollah terrorist group.

This is reported by Reuters.

It is noted that the Israeli military liquidated Mohammed Nasser near the town of Tyre in southern Lebanon. He is considered the commander of the unit responsible for the shelling of Israel from the south-western part of Lebanon.

Sources in Lebanon said Nasser was responsible for part of Hezbollah's operations on the border. One source said another fighter of the group and a civilian were also killed.

Nasser was of the same rank and importance as Taleb Abdallah, the top commander who was killed in an Israeli strike in June.

An Israeli military statement noted that Nasser and Abdallah "were two of Hezbollah's most prominent terrorists in southern Lebanon."

A senior Hezbollah politician, Hassan Fadlallah, noted that Nasser knew he was a target but did not leave the battlefield for nine months. He said Hezbollah would deliver a "punitive retaliation" against Israel for "its crime so that this enemy will realise that the hand of resistance is long".

Revenge Shelling

The elimination of the Hezbollah commander could not go unanswered. Israel's Channel 12 reported that dozens of rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel. No casualties were reported. Israel's Defence Ministry said air-raid sirens were heard in several areas in the north.

The Israeli military did not give the number of rockets fired, but said most of them landed in open terrain, some were intercepted, and several rockets landed in the Kiryat Shmona neighbourhood.

According to the source, no one was injured, but firefighters are working to extinguish a number of fires that resulted from the rocket fire.

Following the salvos, Israeli fighter jets struck the Hezbollah launchers used in the shelling.
