Experts Explain Why New Iranian Frigate Turned Over, Sank For No Good Reason

The Iranians managed to level the ship, but then it turned over again.

On July 7, the media reported a rather interesting incident that took place in Iran. IRIS Sahand frigate, which was commissioned only 6 years ago, suddenly overturned at the anchorage in Bandar Abbas. Experts have analysed the available data and announced the probable cause of the incident. The conclusions are presented by Defense Express.

Analysts have suggested that the IRIS Sahand frigate became a victim of a critical error of Iranian engineers who "overdid" with its reinforcement.

It is known that IRIS Sahand was designed as an imitation of the British Vosper Mark V project. The Iranians decided to "increase" its water substitution and armament nomenclature without changing the length and width of the ship's body.

Moreover, the frigate was tested without a full set of weapons and only then all the additional systems were installed on it. And the incident occurred just shortly after that.

It is interesting that according to unofficial reports, after the frigate was lifted and moved to another point, the cables holding it broke and it turned over again. Only this time the incident happened at a deeper place, so that the frigate sank down.

It is worth noting that some experts do not rule out sabotage. It is supported by the fact that earlier IRIS Sahand was used for probable coordination of attacks by Yemeni Houthis and then the technical problems did not disturb it.
