How Did Lukashenka Become 'Old Crumbe From Village'?

A series of illnesses and ailments forced him to change his behavior significantly.

In the summer of 2024, there is a turning point in Lukashenka's image creation, Salidarnac writes.

Upon his return from the SCO summit, he publicly stated that he should rest. A month later, he admitted a problem with his leg:

"Well, sometimes I limp, my leg hurts. They can't repair my joint. Well, I think it's not so scary for the president: you can drive if you can't walk somewhere.

Lukashenka, who is fat and limping, no longer seems to be trying to impersonate an alpha male. Another frank indulgence for himself: at official events, the ruler is not wearing a business suit, dressed in the style of an "old crumbe from village who came to the city."

Nevertheless, Lukashenka is still trying to assure others that in general he feels fine: "The health is fine!" But more and more sores will come out, which is not surprising given the fact that in a few weeks he will turn 70 years old.

Ten years ago, it was known that Lukashenka's eyesight had fallen sharply and he underwent two operations on his knee joints. At the same time, the ruler tried not to show that he had health problems.

However, a series of illnesses and ailments in recent years have forced him to change his behavior significantlyt.

In the summer of 2020, Lukashenka, who called the coronavirus "psychosis", first had Covid-19 and, judging by his public speeches, it was hard. A year and a half later, he reported that he had had covid for the second time.

In May 2023, Lukashenka was so ill that at the parade in Moscow he appeared with a bandaged hand and barely moved. After disappearing for a while, the ruler reported that he had had the adenovirus.

At the end of the same year, Lukashenka began to hold meetings in a whisper and with a shaking head. At the beginning of this year, the ruler spoke about another misfortune: "He chopped wood, a pad of 80 kilograms fell on his foot, such a swelling."

Since then, it has ceased to be a secret that the ruler has been severely knocked down in terms of health in recent years: he limps, is overweight, cannot cope with tremors and sees poorly. His disappearances for a few days are no longer surprising.

But what’s the next step? How is Lukashenka going to act given his deteriorating health?

In the past, he promised that in case of infirmity, he would resign as head of state. But from the same statement today, it can be understood that Lukashenka will not actually do this:

"If I can't work and I'm out of my mind... You see, I am a weak person, but my head "thinks". I will resign. That is, if I cannot for health reasons. And the second is if the people vote for another."

Belarusians voted for another, but Lukashenka did not leave, so it is obvious that the state of health will not force him to give up power. Moreover, he lives with the dream of living for many more years.

In the past, Lukashenka said: "I think that I will not die under more than 90 years."

Where did such a large figure come from in the head of the ruler? Perhaps at that moment he took into account his good health and the life expectancy of his relatives.

True, the other day – he did talk about eternity. On August 10, during communication with the crowd in the agro-town of Haradzishcha, Lukashenka was "asked" from the crowd to participate in the presidential election in 2025. The answer of the permanent ruler was as follows:

"I am already publicly beginning to tell all of you: you should get used to the fact that I spoiled you a little, that the president will be different. No, I'm not saying that tomorrow I will leave you, the day after tomorrow and so on... Well, things happen. You have to get used to the fact that I'm not eternal, like everyone else. You see, young people grow up, we are preparing them."
